At least 74 people have died and scores more are still missing in Myanmar following heavy flooding and landslides caused by Typhoon Yagi, state media reported on Sunday.

Spokesman for the nation's ruling junta, Zaw Min Tun, said in a statement on Sunday that 113 people had been confirmed dead, with a further 64 missing - though regional reports suggest the true death toll may be higher.

The accounting of casualties has been slow, in part due to communication difficulties with the affected areas.
