The USS Nantucket was commissioned in a ceremony at Charlestown Navy Yard on Saturday, certifying the ship is ready to join the naval fleet and serve in active duty.

Following its commissioning, the USS Nantucket will sail to its homeport assignment of Naval Station Mayport in Jacksonville, Florida. “We’re just really excited after three years of the ship being built to be in Boston to celebrate the commissioning on Saturday,” Commanding Officer Kari Yakubisin said.

The U.S. Navy's newest combat ship will be commissioned in a ceremony at the Charlestown Navy Yard on Saturday.

Littoral combat ships like Nantucket will be equipped with Over the Horizon – Weapons System (OTH-WS) Naval Strike Missile (NSM). The OTH NSM provides the U.S. and its allies with long range anti-surface offensive strike capability as well as increased coastline defense, deterrence, and interoperability.
