Rhys Hoskins hit a grand slam off Sean Manaea in the first inning and the New York Mets’ playoff hopes took a hit with an 8-4 loss to the NL Central champion Milwaukee Brewers.

While in the hunt for one of the final two playoff spots in the National League, the Mets played one of their worst games of the season. The Mets surrendered six stolen bases, five walks. Also, they coughed up two wild pitches, one passed ball. They made an error. They gave up a grand slam.

In their 8-4 loss to the Brewers, Mets manager Carlos Mendoza was not happy with home plate umpire Ramon De Jesus who ejected him after Mendoza argued a questionable strike three call against Francisco Alvarez that would have loaded the bases.

Alvarez went hitless in the Mets’ 8-4 loss against the Brewers, reaching twice on walks. He escaped getting tossed in the fourth inning after striking out on a called strike that was clearly off the plate. That’s when he was visibly upset, exchanging words with home plate umpire Ramon De Jesus before Mets manager Carlos Mendoza came to the rescue.
