Republican Texas firebrand U.S. Senator Ted Cruz, 53, won re-election to a third term, Edison Research projected on Tuesday, holding off a formidable Democratic challenger who tried to end a three-decade conservative hold on the seat.

Ted Cruz wins another term in the US Senate after defeating his Democratic challenger Colin Allred. "Tonight, the people of Texas have spoken and their message rings clear as a bell across this state. Texas will remain Texas," Cruz said during his victory speech.
