A group that oversees prison financing voted Wednesday to call the Alabama facility the “Governor Kay Ivey Correctional Complex.”

A billion-dollar prison that is being built in Elmore County partly using COVID-19 relief funds issued to the state will be named after Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey.

The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grants with funds made available by the U.S. DOJ.
