PepsiCo has been targeted in a new federal lawsuit one week after the abrupt closure of its Back of the Yards warehouse, which left nearly 80 employees out of a job.

PepsiCo’s sudden closure of a 60-year-old bottling plant in Chicago’s Back of the Yards neighborhood has left over 100 workers facing unexpected layoffs.

PepsiCo is now facing a federal lawsuit a week after it shut down its Back of the Yards plant without notice. Local Teamsters 727 filed the suit, accusing Pepsico of violating the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, also known as WARN.

The union representing the employees sharply criticized the closure, noting that the beverage giant failed to provide the required 60-day notice.
