Rep. Juandalynn Givan, a Democratic lawmaker from Birmingham who has been outspoken about the need to respond to gun violence, said today she is introducing a bill to ban bump stocks in Birmingham.

Alabama State Representative Juandalynn Givan is introducing a bill prohibiting possession of a bump stock at the beginning of the 2025 regular session. The bill comes after a mass shooting on Sept. 21 that left four dead and 17 injured in the Five Points neighborhood.

The legislation follows a mass shooting in Birmingham’s Five Points South on September 21 that killed four people and wounded 17 others.

Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin, an outspoken advocate for gun reform measures, will be at the White House today during the signing of an executive order addressing several gun-related measures that includes assembling a task force to assess the threat of machine gun conversion devices.
