WASHINGTON—Republicans picked up Senate seats in West Virginia and Ohio and beat back a challenge in Florida and Texas, putting them on track to retake control of the chamber as early returns rolled in Tuesday night.

The seat was left largely uncontested by Democrats after Sen. Joe Manchin announced last year he would not seek reelection.

West Virginia Governor Jim Justice has won the U.S. Senate seat, defeating Democrat Glenn Elliott in a decisive victory.
