A high-level team of Punjab government officials on Friday called on farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who is on an indefinite fast for 32 days to press the Centre into accepting the protesting farmers' demands,

The apex court also issued a notice to the Punjab government on a contempt petition against its Chief Secretary of Punjab for non-compliance with the December 20 top court order regarding medical aid to Dallewal and to convince him to go to hospital.

The special sitting follows the Supreme Court’s earlier warnings to Punjab, including a December 20 order that underscored the state’s constitutional duty to protect Jagjit Singh Dallewal’s life.

In Punjab, a bus accident on Friday resulted in eight death after the vehicle fell into a drain. According to Bathinda Urban MLA Jagroop Singh Gill, five individuals died on the spot while three others succumbed to serious injuries during treatment.
