Amazon's FAST service seemed redundant after Amazon launched the Prime Video ad tier in January. With the subscription tier making money from subscription fees and ads shown on Prime Video with ads, it made little sense for Amazon to continue with Freevee, which only has the latter revenue stream.

Amazon is getting more free, add-supported programs on its video streaming service, including news, documentaries, and kids content.

Amazon and PBS have entered a partnership that will bring content from the public media operation to Prime Video. More than 150 local PBS channels and the PBS Kids Channel will launch as a free ad-supported TV (or FAST) offering on Prime Video over the coming months.

The new additions will unlock a huge amount of PBS content for viewers around the country, and will be free to stream. More and more Americans are using free ad-supported streaming TV (FAST) platforms to fill in the corners of their streaming setups.
